Equine LEAD: "Special Forces"    - In honor of Special Forces members: Captain Matt Roland, Capt Andrew Pedersen-Keel, and Specialist Tracy Hebert.

Often called Equine Assisted Learning or Equine Guided Education, the “special force” between human and horse is centuries old. Horses do not hide their emotions, so they offer a mirror to show us humans how we may be presenting ourselves to others.

We teach students how to use empathy, communication, and centered-energy to approach a horse, as well as self-management through the care of feeding animals, respect for others, and the importance of clear communication in relationships with humans and horses.

Each day focuses on a different leadership skill:

Day 1: Empathy and Self-Regulation of Emotions

Day 2: Inclusion and Active Listening

Day 3: Servant Leadership and Kindness

By the end of the week, students get to show off their new horsey skills to friends and family at the “Leadership rodeo.”

*Campers SHOULD wear closed-toe shoes if possible. We want to protect their feet.

**A permission Colorado Liability Release Form is posted below. Please have an adult parent/guardian read and sign the release. We will NOT be riding the horses. We will just be observing, grooming, petting, and tacking (putting on saddles and bridles). However, horses are still wild animals! The State of Colorado has a standard reliability release that most equine centers use. If you have questions, just ask! Thanks!
